Michael Doherty

Before and after becoming a lawyer, I’ve worked toward these goals.  About half of my career has been spent working in public service for the governments of Canada and British Columbia and the other half working for public interest organizations such as the Sierra Club, the BC Public Interest Advocacy Centre, and Ecojustice.  Along the way, I’ve earned two degrees (BA, MA) in political science and three (LLB, MJur, PhD) in law, have taught courses in law at three post-secondary institutions, and have authored several books. My volunteer work has included serving on the boards of environmental groups and karate organizations; plus, I have taught karate for many years.  In October 2024, I resigned from my employment with the Attorney General of BC in order to be able to run for the Green Party of Canada in the upcoming federal election.

As an MP, I hope to be able to hold the government to account in those public policy matters where it consistently falls short.  As well, I hope to be able to use my position to coordinate efforts between federal, provincial, and local governments to fix problems that no single level of government seems willing to address.

Victoria has always been one of the most beautiful and livable cities in Canada.  My task will be to ensure that that remains the case, now and in the future.
