So much has happened since this happy photo was taken on Earth Day three years ago – two federal elections, the pandemic, the occupation of Ottawa, war in Europe…
What hasn’t happened – even though it’s more urgent than ever – is serious action to address the climate emergency. We are now perilously close to the point where the window of opportunity to act closes forever.
The Conservatives don’t get it – never have, never will. And now the NDP has signed up to support the Liberals and their “Emissions Reduction Plan” – a sad exercise in incrementalism that has failure written all over it.
As we head towards the next election in 2025, that leaves the Greens as the only party pushing for bold measures that match the gravity of the crisis.
Three years to rebuild and mobilize so that we’re ready to run a campaign that secures at least 12 seats in Parliament – the magic number for official party status and, most importantly, for a powerful voice demanding climate action.
Three years to 12 MPs – that’s the Earth Day Challenge!
